artistic career
After earning an Applied Arts Diploma in metals and jewelry in 1997, I continued my studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania, where I graduated with the highest honors in 2004. My studies were founded in informal, signage and “materials” art, followed by pop art and graffiti, but my interest in graphics and the problems of mass culture pointed me down the path I eventually took.
The foundation of my work is graphics, and its etymological origin, graphein, which means engraving or scratching harks back to something ancestral, to the origins of man, cave art, to a time when man was discovering himself through forces such as eroticism, death and art; perceptions that led to a huge evolution and the development of mankind. In today’s society, however, the innate, mordant nature of man conflicts with his greatest creation, the machine. What I try to show through different forms of art, which range from design, engraving and painting to the use of materials, collages, and prints, is the conflict that characterizes our contemporary life and its many ambiguities.
